Scavenger Hunt

Have more fun at the Festival by playing our scavenger hunt! Here's how:

  1. Get a scavenger hunt card: either march in the All Species Parade and get your card in your goody bag, or get a card from one of the volunteer greeters at the Festival.
  2. Read the clues or follow the instructions for each item to find.
  3. When you've completed the hunt and have all your items, take your card to the Sustainable Practice table. If you'd like, put your name and contact information on your card and enter a drawing for a prize.
  4. Think about one step you can promise to take this year to expand your positive impact on Earth. Get a commitment card to remember and keep your promise!

Festival Goals

The Earth Day Festival in Brunswick brings people together in midcoast Maine to have fun, meet people and make new friends, and take steps to protect our planet. More than fifty local businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies have joined forces to create a celebration that is free for the public, powered by community spirit, and grounded in the belief that we can expand our positive impact on Earth.

We’ve designed every part of the day, from how you get here to what you eat to what happens with your waste, to respect the Earth we’re celebrating. Here’s how.

Zero Waste

We’re working to make this a zero-waste event. Our food vendors have committed to using compostable plates, cups, and utensils, and you’ll find clearly labeled bins throughout the Festival for composting, recycling, and landfill. Please take a moment to sort your waste. Together, we can show that a community event doesn’t have to mean a mountain of trash.

Earth-Friendly Eating

We’ve asked our food trucks to offer delicious vegetarian and vegan options. Choosing a plant-based meal, even for just one day, is one of the simplest ways to improve your environmental impact. Come hungry, eat well, and feel good about it!

Walkable Location

We hope you were able to leave the car at home! The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is providing plenty of bike parking and staffing a tent with free safety checks, basic tune-ups, and simple repairs. We chose Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School for the Festival location in part because it is an easy walk or ride from downtown Brunswick and many surrounding neighborhoods, and close to the Brunswick bus and Amtrak Downeaster stops. GoMaine has listed the Festival on their site and can help you find a carpool. Every car trip avoided means fewer emissions and more parking for those who need it.

Profit Sharing

This is not a charity event; it’s a profit-sharing one. Ninety-nine percent of any profits from the Festival go directly back to the non-profit and governmental organizations that provide fun activities and help promote the event. Every dollar a sponsor contributes, and every person who shows up, increases the value of the Festival for organizations doing vital work in our community.

Fifteen Communities, One Celebration

The greater Brunswick area spans fifteen communities served by five high schools, from Arrowsic to Woolwich, Harpswell to Durham. The Festival brings together people who share this geography but don’t always have a chance to connect. Whether you’re from Brunswick or Bowdoinham, Bath or Freeport, this is your festival.

Earth Day Is Every Day

The Festival is a one-day celebration, but its impact doesn’t have to end at three o’clock. Our Earth Day Every Day Resource Guide, available at EarthDayinBrunswick.com, connects you with local resources for sustainable goods, food and farming, transportation, energy, composting, nature, and community organizations. Take one new step today, and another tomorrow.

Building Something That Lasts

We’ve committed to presenting this Festival in Brunswick for at least three years, long enough to become a tradition. Your enthusiasm today shapes what the Festival becomes next year and the year after. Tell us what you loved, what you’d change, and what you want to see next time. Fill out a survey, talk to a volunteer, or email us at earthdaybrunswick@gmail.com.

Supporting the Festival

Sponsorships and gifts from generous businesses and individuals make the Festival possible.

Gifts of any amount are gratefully accepted. Sustainable Practice, a small business based in Brunswick, has organized this event on a profit-sharing basis. Business sponsorships are advertising expenses and gifts from individuals are just that: gifts, not charitable contributions. If Festival revenues exceed expenses, 99% of profits are shared with the non-profit and governmental organizations that help promote the Festival and provide fun activities for people who attend.

Sustainable Practice plans to present the Earth Day Festival in Brunswick again in 2027 and 2028.
