When and where in 2026

By popular request, two nature hikes departed from the Festival at 11:30 on Saturday, April 25, 2026. These were urban hikes that started from and returned to Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School (44 McKeen Street, Brunswick). They were led by volunteers.

Routes used sidewalks, paths, and short stretches of natural surface. Details for 2027 hikes, if offered, will be announced later.

Hike A: Bowdoin Pines

Hike A is suitable for grown ups who would like to explore the Bowdoin Pines, a section of forest near the campus of Bowdoin College.

This route is a chance to breathe deep under tall trees, notice spring unfolding along the way, and chat with fellow Festival-goers who want a quieter moment in the middle of a busy day.

Hike B: Mare Brook

Hike B is suitable for kids and the young at heart who would like to explore the section of Mare Brook near the junior high school.

Expect a friendly, family-pace walk with plenty to look at along the brook—great for curious kids and adults who enjoy spotting birds, bugs, and early-season plants.

Before you join

  • Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather; parts of the walk may be damp or uneven.
  • Bring water if you like; there is no fee to join.
  • Read the full assumption of risk disclaimer before joining.
  • Children should stay with a responsible adult; choose Hike B if you want an especially kid-friendly pace and destination.
  • If you need accessibility details for getting to the meeting spot, see the Festival Program — Getting There or contact us.
